This question may be on your mind more, as it seems that every media outlet and celebrity personality has an opinion on the topic. This is especially so when the peptide at question is semaglutide, commonly referred to by its branded name Ozempic. But are you aware that there are over 7,000 peptides already existing in your body today? And that they serve almost as many functions, well beyond just weight loss. So first, what is a peptide? Peptides are small chains of amino acids that naturally occur in your body. They belong in a branch of medicine referred to as Regenerative Medicine. The contemporary definition of Regenerative Medicine (RM) came into existence around 1999, and the intent of RM is to study how the human body uses its own resources to repair and rejuvenate itself.

Beyond just weight loss, peptides are used to create solutions for a plethora of
conditions including, but not limited to:
• Longevity and improved aging
• Body composition including lean muscle development and retention
• Cognitive enhancement such as memory improvement and clarity of thought
• Anxiety reduction
• Sexual wellbeing

•Weight loss, which includes the popular peptides Semaglutide and Tirzepatide

Peptides can be delivered in a variety of ways however subcutaneous injection is typically the most effective, as it enters the bloodstream fastest while losing the least amount of functionality. There is, however, significant work being done on capsule delivery methods.

Before you rush to your doctor to sign up, there are a few things to consider. Foremost is that your regular, conventional MD may not be versed in Regenerative Medicine. RM is a specialty area of medicine, just like most other specialties.

Second, the use of certain peptides is fairly new and therefore the long-term effects are not 100% certain at this point. Furthermore, each of us has a unique set of health circumstances, which can make using certain peptides questionable.

All that said, peptide therapy is an exciting new field of medicine with some promising results. There are thousands of professional athletes, longevity experts and physicians who believe it is THE next foray into improving human health span and performance.
